This event focuses on Black inclusivity including all of the Afro-Caribbeans, Afro-Latin Americans, Diaspora Africans and African Americans.

about the director
Weyni Kahsay is a first generation Eritrean American based in Dallas, Texas. She is an emerging interdisciplinary conceptual artist, who graduated from UNT with B.F.A. in New Media Arts, (B.F.A In Drawing & Painting), an active community member of the DFW Eritrean Community, Eritrean National Public Diplomacy, DFW Black Arts, members of your community, and Artist Mentorship Team for the Horne St. Public Art Project. She is currently a wedding coordinator with Just4U Weddings specializing in planning and leading the day of event. Weyni Kahsay emphasizes art, education, and culture, creating spaces for underrepresented communities.
how did we get here?
Weyni Kahsay served as the project manager and art curator for the inaugural arts program at the 2022 USA Eritrean Festival (in Dallas) and later curated the Arts Program at the 2023 USA Eritrean Festival (in Seattle). Hosting over 10,000 + people
'The Arts' (2022) showcased 35 artworks by 10 Eritrean artists from across the globe, including Houston, Dallas, Seattle, Sweden, and Norway. The gallery featured diverse mediums, such as paintings, photographs, three art installations, and two interactive pieces. The exhibition also included a live painting session and was visited by notable guests like Tiffany Haddish, Nipsey Hussle's father, representatives from the US Eritrean embassy, and other diplomats. Funded by the USA Eritrean Embassy and the Eritrean National Public Diplomacy Group.
During the 2022 USA Eritrean Festival, she organized the Eritrean Pageant, Featuring Lud Sonny, a Wild Nā Out model, as one of your judges. Focusing on inclusivity she incorparted our first male contestants. Winners won a free flight to either Eritrea, Europe, or a domestic location. Lastly, she curated a fashion show at the 2022 DFW Eritrean Festival that included four designers and a live performance. Funded by the USA Eritrean Embassy.

inspiration
Afro Air is Inspired by EXPO, a festival that happens annually in Asmara, Eritrea. It showcases the diverse cultures of all 9 ethnic groups in Eritrea through dance, music, food, art, etc. Weyni Kahsay is inspired to connect with diverse communities and bring them together to foster unity and celebrate cultural diversity within the Afro community.
